About the event

Poetry Workshop

Labels like 'poetry', 'creativity', and 'art' frequently evoke meanings that limit us exploring them. We will peel these labels off and you will be guided through exercises that help us get out of our own way. You will discover that you have something profound and beautiful behind these labels.

What will you Do?

Explore what poetry and creativity means to each of us

- Dispel the myths we were taught that poetry is tightly bound by rules for rhyming, timing, and syllable counting

- Learn and practice techniques to write poetry

- Learn techniques to perform poetry, with demonstrations

- Be invited to practice performing poetry with the group, if you choose to!

Everyone is invited and welcome to this workshop. An enjoyable and empowering part of poetry is choosing to ignore rules or what you’ve been told to do. Any exercise or activity we do is an invitation and you are more than welcome to participate, observe, or sit out any parts you choose to.

What Materials do your participants need to bring?

Something to write on and with.
